Visualize Somerville 2

Visualize Somerville 2 (or #VisSom2 for short) is going full steam! Our Kickstarter is just a few days away to being done and we are so close to getting funded!

We have had a few successful tests of our interactive systems as well lately, and are moving ahead with both the load testing and polishing the UX (in layman terms, this means we are working to make sure the custom programs we are building to connect the phones and the video program that paints on the walls can handle 30+ people using it at the same time, as well as having a nice layout so people can understand what is going on!).

Beyond that it is business as usual, we are getting more and more attention about this, and I could not be happier. From this day we have 59 days to go before the event happens!

I also got interviewed by Fallons Daily Toast about the event as well, check it out here:

Visualize Somerville 2 Kickstarter up!

The following 2 months are going to be very exciting.

First and foremost, I am going to be creating (yet again) Visualize Somerville. It will be at Brooklyn Boulders Somerville again, but this time it will also be interactive. What does that mean exactly though? That means you can go onto the provided wifi on your smartphone and play with the visuals yourself! We are working hard at this, there is many moving parts of course.

Most importantly to mention is we have launched a Kickstarter for the event. Check it out here. (As of this writting) We are at almost 1/4 required $4000, which is both super exciting as well as very stressful. As the interactive portion of the event requires a lot more gear (for example, the router alone costs $500 and we need 3 more access points, which are $80 each), we needed to reach out to the community to make this event happen. The (very costly) projectors, the police detail for the event, paying the crew, random gear we will need to buy in a pinch, and of course the computers themselves do NOT come cheap. Check out the video here:

(I had a great time making this video, some of the outtakes of Dabu and I were really funny).

This is also my Masters Capstone project for Harvard Extension. A Capstone is the alternative choice from doing a Thesis, it’s semester long project that combines all the details of what you have learned during your Masters program. Mine was IT with a focus on Digital Media, so it makes sense to me I would be doing it this way! Lots of work ahead of me though, and luckily I have some great people helping me with it.

I also got selected to perform at Futher Future again, the plucky little festival by Robotheart outside Las Vegas. That is very exciting and I can’t wait to get back out there to show the world how visual productions are done. That is at the end of April, can’t wait!

On top of all of that, I am moving to LA in June! There are many reasons to do this, sun, a new place, a bigger city, more work, friends, to be challenged again, but really it is, as Gregory Mallory said about Everest “Because it is there”. Just a new place and new opportunities. I don’t yet think I will be staying there forever and settling down, but well, we shall see right?

On the way out there, I will be stopping at Movement Detroit, which I have never been to and heard great stories about. As I have missed Detroit several times which running around the country, it’s about time to get out there and see what the big deal is. After that, I will just keep driving west and eventually land in Los Angeles. Quite the life, and although I have no idea about work or where I will live yet, I am excited to see where this next grand adventure will take me.
