Jon Bonk has been working as a Visual Artist for over 12 years. His medium is primarily video, but he also works in photography, sculpture, and as a creative director.
He started as a VJ, and has performed with countless artists. He started off with video working with the notorious Glitch Crew, whom fellow VJ Zebbler helped curate and make world known. Due to his prowess both behind the screen and his technical skill, he was asked in 2010 to tour with world famous Shpongle for the National Tour. Using his skills after working professionally in the A/V industry, he has taken his career to the next level playing massive festivals such as Identity Festival, Further Future Festival and Burningman.
In 2014 he spent 3 months backpacking around Europe and Asia, discovering the art of the world and experiencing the best the world had to offer. You can see his travels on his Tumblr. This trip changed his perspective and made him more determined than ever to make the world more beautiful.
Recently he has been creating his own events and helping with many more. He has been working with the Together Festival to curate the VJ competition for 3 years running. With the help of massive sponsorships, he has brought in tons of talented visual artists into the spotlight. His most recent high profile work was Visualize Somerville, a projection mapping event at Brooklyn Boulders, with accompanying art show at Aeronaut Brewery.
While in Boston he is resident VJ (7 years running) for the longest running Drum and Bass weekly in the USA, Elements. He also ran a non-profit as Director of Firefly Arts Collective, a regional Burningman festival in Vermont. He is working to finish his Masters of Information Technology at Harvard Extension school with a focus in Digital Media and Instructional Design.
